چکیده

Machines that simulate flying insects can be used to maneuver into small complex spaces. An important first step to creating insectoid flying machines is studying how an insect flies and creating a 3-D model that replicates its movements. The red milkweed beetle was chosen to be the subject because it was easy to find and capture. Live specimens were captured from the wild and then, using a highspeed camera, videotaped in natural flight. Photographs of dissected beetles were then taken and used to create a complete model of a red milkweed beetle. This model was then animated with the motions based off of observations from footage of red milkweed beetles in flight. As a result, a detailed and accurate 3-D model of the red milkweed beetle and its flight animation was constructed.

owe much of their extraordinary evolutionary success to flight. Compared with their flightless ancestors, flying insects are better equipped to evade predators, search food sources and colonize new habitats. Because their survival and evolution depend so crucially on flight performance, it is hardly surprising that the flight-related sensory, physiological, behavioral and biomechanical traits o...

Cochineal (Dactylopius Coccus) as One of the Most Important Insects in Industrial Dyeing

Cochineal is the name of both crimson or carmine dye and the cochineal insect (Dactylopius coccus), a scale insect from which the dye is derived. There are other species in the genus Dactylopius which can be used to produce cochineal extract, but they are extremely difficult to distinguish from D. coccus, even for expert taxonomists, and the latter scientific name (and the use of the term "coch...
